The District is subdivided into units called “Areas” these are designated as Areas 1 to 11. It was among the first places to be developed when the federal capital moved to Abuja. Garki District is the area in the southwest corner of the city, having the central District to the north and Asokoro District to the east. Some landmarks in Asokoro includes: Aso Rock, World Health Organization, ECOWAS, Protea Hotel and numerous Embassies. Some of the major roads in Asokoro include Yakubu Gowon, Maitama Sule Street, Julius Nyerere Crescent, Kwame Nkrumah Crescent, Muritala Mohammed Way, and Nelson Mandela Street. It is one of the most exclusive districts in Abuja and houses virtually all the federal cabinet ministers, in addition the Presidential Palace (Aso Rock) is located in Asokoro district.īy Virtue of fact, Asokoro is the most secured area of the City. It is located to the east of Garki district and south of central district. The ECOWAS secretariat is a focal point of interest as its Headquarters is located in Asokoro. ASOKORO DISTRICTĪsokoro is the top spot of all districts, houses all the states lodges and guest houses. Just as Garki District has Garki II, Wuse has Wuse II. This district houses the Sheraton Hotel and Towers (Zone 4), Ibro International hotel, the Foreign Affairs Ministry Headquarters (Zone 3) and Nigerian Customs Services Headquarters, Federal Civil Service Commission (Zone 3), Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration (NAFDAC) (Zone 7), Wuse General Hospital, and the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation. The second most important post office in the city is here. The Wuse Market is Abuja’s principal market (Zone 5). Wuse zone District is numbered Zones 1–8. Wuse district houses both the rich and average as it is the commercial heart of Abuja.
You will find classic residential and commercial interest at Wuse II. Wuse II is the commercial and residential hot bed in Abuja located at the core centre of Abuja. Wuse II District is the northwestern part of the city, with the Maitama District to its north and the Central District to its south. There are numerous restaurants, hotels, shopping malls and recreational places in Maitama. The Major roads are Murtala Mohammed way, Shehu Shagari Way, IBB way, Aguiyi Ironsi Street and Gana Street. Maitama is home to many of the European embassies in Nigeria. Interesting buildings include the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, National Communication Headquarters, The British High Commission. It is an exclusive and expensive area where the crème de le crème and top politicians live. It is home to most embassies and high commissions. It is in the phase 1 development plan of the federal capital territory.
This area is home to the top bracket sections of society and business, and has the reputation of being very exclusive and very expensive. Maitama is one of the major districts of Abuja located in the north of the city, with Wuse and Central Districts lying to its southwest and southeast respectively.
